|
People's homes are relatively quiet and peaceful places. Homes are not noisy and don't normally emit a lot of smoke. Electricity and water usage are unseen quantities and the emission of volatile organic compounds is unnoticed. Beneath this seemingly harmless veneer lies a monster that is heavy on energy use and other resources and quite often is not very healthy to live in. Going Green begins to address some of these issues and creates a sustainable and healthy living environment. Eco-friendly homes offer healthier and more liveable spaces that save energy and are minimal consumers of resources and therefore easier on the environment. The basis of sustainable or eco-friendly homes focuses on some elementary features; re-use and recycling, conservation of energy, water conservation, construction methods which are ecologically friendly, improved indoor air quality, improved indoor lighting, healthy eating and environmentally friendly resources. It is not possible to be 100% green, but you can move towards reducing your carbon footprint. This might involve reducing the amount of driving that you do by working from home a few days a week, to using eco-friendly building materials to simply concentrating on the quality of air and light in your home. |
