Building and construction activities are notorious for damaging the environment. From dumping a huge slab of concrete in the middle of a pristine natural environment, to generating vast amounts of cement-contaminated run-off water and loads of building rubble which has to be disposed of somewhere, building is a really unfriendly activity if we are considering the environment. Add to that the intrinsic energy cost and building is a very costly exercise. But what other options do we have, we have to shelter somewhere and where would we keep all our stuff if we didn't have a building? Today's conventional paints are all made from petrochemical derivatives. These give off all sorts of toxic chemicals into the environment. Pronature Paints Use only timber that carries the Forestry Stewardship Council certification which guarantees that the timber is from a sustainable source. Forestry Stewardship Council Bamboo is a sustainable resource in that it can be harvested every five years. It is a hard wood which can be used for flooring and for worktops and cupboard doors. Bamboo products Isotherm is an eco-friendly insulating material made from recycled plastic. |
