BingoBins started out as a bin rental organisation some years ago. We had a bunch of bins and a trailer and would supply wheelie bins for all sorts of corporate functions, weddings and sports days at schools. We would supply clean empty bins and bags and collect full bins and bags after the function.
There was so much glass and metal in those collections, that we were sure there was a better way to collect and dispose of garbage. We tried at a couple of corporate functions to get the bar tenders to separate glass from cans, and supplied bins that were clearly marked as well. But the bar tenders wouldn't be told how to throw stuff out.
We decided to make our mission one of educating people in the area of recycling. Separating garbage is the simplest thing to do and has a huge impact.
We have been very successful in setting up recycling stations throughout the Western Cape and in creating small jobs for otherwise indigent people. Plastic, metal and paper recyclers pay a small amount per kilogram for recyclable material.
